General Information
Welcome all of you who will be enjoying a wonderful year of Golf at the Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club (SFGCC).
Handicap
There are numerous Internet sites that define what a Handicap is and how it is determined, suffice it to say that each player needs to establish a Handicap in order to participate in any competition, either fun or competitive.
The SFGCC uses the Golf Canada Handicap software. The computer system is located just inside the entrance to the Club House. If this is not convenient, then you can use the Golf Canada LINK in the Members-Only Section of the SFGCC web site.
Only Golf Canada approved and valid handicaps are acceptable for use in Club competitions as well as all tournaments and invitationals at home or away.
Therefore, it is very important that these handicaps are accurate and up-to-date. If you are not familiar with the handicap system, please feel free to contact anyone on the Executive or inquire at the Pro-Shop whose staff are always willing to help.
Scores should be posted immediately after each round of golf (18 hole or 9 hole) that you play.
Stroke Play
Players compete against others in the field for the best total score – either NET (which is total score less your handicap) or GROSS (which does not subtract your handicap).
Match Play
This is a competition, played hole by hole between two players, with strokes allocated according to difference of players’ handicaps. EG: your handicap is 30 and your competitor’s is 15. The difference of 15 strokes is given to you. Therefore, you receive 1 stroke on the 15 hardest holes, as rated on the score card.
Highlights
We want to make sure that all achievements receive recognition. Eg, Hole-in-One, Breaking a game score of 100, 90 or 80, etc. A sheet is available in the locker room for anyone who deserves bragging rights! If you don’t record it, we won’t know about it.
